Update on the blockage in the pipe from the sewage pumping station at The Hurst:
Cllr Stewart has been keeping a close eye on the situation at the sewage pumping station (SPS) at the Hurst which is being emptied by tankers due to a blockage preventing waste being taken away by pipe. Many phone calls have resulted in contact with the Area Network Manager who responds to her messages quickly. They understand that the two sewage tankers are only able to cope when it is not raining so should respond with an additional vehicle should there be a prolonged period of rain. However we are hopefully over the worst of the continuing rain so this should not be necessary. They acknowledge that they have and continue to damage our rural lane/s. Once this is all over they have promised to repair the issues they have caused. Cllr Stewart will chase them about that too. For now their trucks will keep up a 24 hour presence at the SPS and keep sucking away!
On Friday 23 March Cllr Stewart saw the engineer in charge of finding and then repairing the actual problem with the blockage/damaged rising main pipe that stretches from our SPS across the fields to the Hitches Lane SPS. At the moment they don't know exactly what or where the problem piece of pipe is and despite many attempts they have not found the blockage. They only know it is not flowing. In the week commencing 25 March they are about to try another way of locating the issue this will result in them closing the road from Pale Lane to The Hurst while they carry out their investigations. Fingers crossed this time their attempts will work.
Cllr Stewart and the Parish Council will keep residents updated with any progress.

Scam alert – Parish.uk
Winchfield Parish Council has been made aware that Parish.UK is passing off its parish websites as ‘official’ and ‘parish-sponsored’. Under this false premise they are then trying to:
- Get residents to register (and provide their email addresses)
- Get businesses to pay to be in their business register.
This is a scam which attempts to charge businesses, service providers and clubs to continue their business listing. Please be aware that parish council websites exist to serve their community and no charges are ever made to promote businesses, service providers and clubs. Please delete any emails received from an email address ending in parish.uk – they are a bogus organisation and do not act in the best interest of parish councils, organisations and communities. Litter Pick
Litter Picks are normally held twice a year and the next one will be held on Sunday 17 March. The last one was held on Sunday, 3 December 2023. Thirty people volunteered, including six ‘first-timers’, and around 33 bags of litter plus sundry other larger items were collected. Afterwards everyone enjoyed bacon baps and a catch-up in the village hall! For further information, please email winchfieldlitterpick@gmail.com
Defibrillators
Defibrillators are installed at the Barley Mow pub, at the Village Hall, at the Railway Station, outside Court Cottage on Bagwell Lane, at Winchfield Court and at The Pheonix Inn pub.
In an emergency always dial 999 first. The ambulance service will be aware that the village has defibrillators and they can provide support over the telephone before an ambulance arrives. Both the defibrillators are in locked cabinets and the ambulance service will be able to advise on how to gain access.
